Head coach Shanahan gave an update on the injury to DL Nick Bosa

  • Shanahan said they are hoping that Bosa will be available to play on Week 1 of the regular season for the Niners.
  • He also explained that the injury does not meet the criteria of a high ankle sprain. Shanahan described it as a minor high ankle sprain, but then went on to explain there really is no such category. He said it is a bigger deal than a low ankle sprain.

Shanahan also talked about the injury to CB Jason Verrett

  • The coach said that Verrett’s injury is an ankle injury. He said the timeframe for Verrett to return is the same as it is for Bosa – Week 1.
  • Shanahan made it clear that Verrett does not have a high ankle sprain.
  • He also stated that Verrett and Bosa are done for the preseason.

Thursday was the 49ers final practice before their first preseason game with the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday.

Jerick McKinnon Update

  • McKinnon experienced soreness in his knee after his first two practices after coming off the PUP list.
  • He will undergo platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment and will miss at least two weeks of preseason drills and games.

QB Mullens likes TE Kittle as a target

  • Mullens hit Kittle across the middle for a 30-plus yard gain during the 11-on-11 drills.

Red Zone Drills

  • Emmanuel Moseley had big Pass Break Up (PBU) in the end zone on a pass intended for George Kittle.
  • On a pass intended for Trent Taylor, Tarvarius Moore undercut the route and came down with an interception during the red zone drill.

Two-minute drills

  • Garoppolo and Mullens each led scoring drives during the two-minute drills.

  • The 49ers signed defensive lineman Jeremiah Valoaga to a one-year contract. To make room for Valoaga on the roster, WR Chris Thompson was waived. Valoaga (6-foot-6, 275) was originally signed by the Lions. He spent part of the 2018 season on the Detroit practice squad and finished 2018 on the Dolphins practice squad. He played his college football at UNLV.
