Joe Dumars is a Special Advisor to Kings General Manager Vlade Divac

June 21, 2019 - 7:16 pm

The Sacramento Kings announced on Friday that NBA Hall of Fame player and veteran executive Joe Dumars has been hired as a Special Advisor to the General Manager. Dumars will report directly to GM Vlade Divac and will serve as a resource to the front office.

The Kings have been criticized for having a small and inexperienced executive staff in its front office. Dumars brings over 30 years of NBA experience as an executive and a player to the organization. He served as president of basketball operations for the Detroit Pistons for 13 seasons. In 2004, the Pistons won the NBA Championship under his leadership.

Another major component that Dumars will bring to the Kings is an “outsiders” perspective. The Kings have been criticized for being very “ingrown” as an organization. Dumars not only brings his experience from the Pistons but from the Eastern Conference as well.

“I’ve known Vlade for decades, and I’m thrilled to work with him and the Sacramento Kings at such an exciting time for franchise,” said Dumars.
