Friday injury updates

49ers

The status on these players was announced by head coach Kyle Shanahan:

  • Nick Bosa missed the first practice sessions in Youngstown dealing with on-going issues with his ankle injury. Per Shanahan, Bosa will be a game time decision on whether he plays or not.

"He looked good walking through," Shanahan said on Friday. "But we’ll talk to him and see how he looked during individual (drills) and probably make a decision on Sunday morning."

  • Jimmie Ward was limited this week because of a finger issue. He is questionable for the game on Sunday.
  • Now for the BAD NEWS: Trent Taylor (foot), Jalen Hurd (back), and Tevin Coleman (ankle) are all out for game two in Cincinnati. Shanahan hopes to have all three back after the bye week. There is some optimism that they may be available for the home opener with the Steelers.

Bengals

  • WR A.J. Green (ankle) and tackle Cordy Glenn (concussion) are scratches for the game on Sunday.
  • RB Joe Mixon (ankle), RB Trayvon Williams (foot) and safety Clayton Fejedelem are listed as questionable.

Where to listen to the game

The official radio home for the San Francisco 49ers in Sacramento is ESPN 1320. Greg Papa and Tim Ryan will have the play-by-play call for you. The pregame show begins at 9:00 AM local time.

A Niners 2-0 start?

  • The last time the 49ers started the season with a 2-0 record was back in 2012.
  • The last time the 49ers won back-to-back games on the road to start the season was in 1989. They won the Super Bowl that season. Don’t get too excited Niners fans.

Last time the 49ers and Bengals met

The last the teams faced each other was on December 20, 2015 in San Francisco. The Bengals won that game 24-14. Not many players on the current rosters played in that contest.

Neither head coach was at that game. Kyle Shanahan is in his third season as the 49ers head man while Zack Taylor is the rookie head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals with a record of 0-1 in the NFL.

Niner’s notes

  • DL Dee Ford forced a fumble when he stripped the ball out of the hands of Jameis Winston when he sacked the QB for a six-yard loss. Over the past two seasons, Ford has six games with a Forced Fumble and at least one sack which tied him with Khalil Mack over that time period.
  • If CB Richard Sherman makes an interception on Sunday, it would be just the third time he has made INT’s in back-to-back games in his career. He intercepted Bengals QB Andy Dalton back on October 30, 2011 when he was with Seattle.

  • The 49ers recorded 15 points off turnovers in Week 1. That was the fourth most in the NFL.

Local ties on the Bengals

RB Joe Mixon is from Oakley, CA (Freedom HS); OT Jonah Williams (Reserve/PUP iist) is from Folsom (Folsom HS); S Trayvon Henderson (practice squad) is from Sacramento (Grant Union HS)
