Tensions are high in the Sunshine State where two quarterbacks, one young and one old, are currently having a spat over each other’s facial hair. And it’s getting heated.

“I think the beard is cooler,” said well-traveled Dolphins vet Ryan Fitzpatrick, taking a clear shot at his Week 3 opponent, second-year Jags signal-caller Gardner Minshew. “Guys that grow mustaches have patchy sides.”

“I’ll let mine speak for itself,” said Minshew in response to Fitzpatrick’s mustache-shaming. “But I’m gonna’ have respect for my elders. Especially when they’re much, much elder.”

Thursday’s Jaguars/Dolphins tilt isn’t even the most anticipated matchup on this week’s primetime slate—Monday night’s showdown of AFC heavyweights Baltimore and Kansas City unquestionably takes that honor. But with the way Fitzpatrick and Minshew are hyping it up, cutting promos like wrestlers from the Attitude Era (“IT DOESN’T MATTER!”), you’d think the Fins and Jags were battling for a championship belt.

Grooming preferences aside, Minshew and Fitzpatrick have both performed admirably in the early going. Fitzpatrick hung 328 yards on Buffalo (one of his seven former teams) a week ago while Minshew is coming off a 339-yard masterpiece of his own, accomplished in a narrow loss to division-rival Tennessee. With both teams preferring to air the ball out, don’t be surprised if the over (47.5 on FanDuel Sportsbook) hits Thursday in Duval.
