Fantasy football: Week 6 waiver wire, streamers and starts

If this week’s RADIO.COM Fantasy Football Show were a Friends episode, it would be called “The One with Chase Claypool.” Mapletron had shown flashes in earlier weeks including an 84-yard touchdown burst against Denver in Week 2, but Sunday was his Mona Lisa, a four-touchdown masterpiece that instantly elevated the talented Notre Dame alum from “toolsy prospect” to “must-own fantasy commodity.”

Whether Sunday’s blistering display against Philadelphia (poor Jalen Mills) was a red herring designed to throw fantasy owners off the scent or a sign of things to come for the promising 22-year-old remains to be seen. But with injuries and COVID decimating the fantasy landscape, Claypool warrants a bench stash at the bare minimum, especially if Diontae Johnson’s balky back—a setback that limited him to six Week 5 snaps—continues to be a hindrance.

Sometimes, you have to let your freak flag fly and that’s precisely what Stephen Andress, Jordan Cohn and I did on this week’s Fantasy Show, giving props to Eagles practice-squadder-turned-WR1 Travis Fulgham, endorsing veteran gunslinger Ryan Fitzpatrick (a Harvard alum, if you weren’t aware) as a viable Week 6 streaming option and even making the case for Jaguars jack-of-all-trades Laviska Shenault as a stealthy start against Detroit’s Swiss-cheese secondary.

It’s a weird one alright, but how else would you describe a week with a Tuesday game but no Thursday night offering? Call it life imitating art. Thanks as always to our producer Jack Roberts for all his hustle behind the scenes. Also, if you’re grasping at straws on the wire this week, I’d recommend giving this column from Jordan, our resident waiver guru, a read before submitting any claims.
